All navigation is found on the top site navigation bar. Beneath the site title is the breadcrumbs to see where you are currently nested in the site.

The only separated navigation, is that of the user control panel where you can edit your settings and profiles, and the lore book navigation. However, each of these locations can be found via the top navigation bar already mentioned.

The forum layout is fairly basic. We do not run a great deal of sub boards, meaning that navigation is easier and knowing where to put your threads is easier.

Some sections of the site may require users to be logged in. This is for privacy. Not every part of the site is for public view.

Registration: Creating your Writer Account

registration button is fairly easy to find. The first account you create MUST be your OOC author account. It must match your discord username. Please use proper capitalization, and go through your account settings to establish your account properly before continuing.

Your author account is required to have an avatar and gif. The rest of the author details are encouraged but optional.

Creating a Character Account / Starting an Application

To create a character account, you go through the process of a new registration. This time enter your character’s First and Last name as your username with proper capitalization. Use the same email address and a password you can remember.

Once your character account is made, you must return to your author account, enter the User CP, and under the last sidebar option click “Account Switcher” and enter your username and password for your character account to attach. Once that is complete, you will have access to switch to the account from the “attached Accounts” drop down from the top navigation bar, and in the post editor at any time.

Remember, to edit the character profile/application, you must be switched to that account. If you have more than one tab open and switched accounts than go back to old tabs, you may face saving errors. Be sure to refresh the page and make sure what account you are on before trying to impute or save anything new or it may not take – or save to the wrong account.

Application Requirements

All portions of the Character profile must be filled out including images. This includes your avatar. The only sections NOT required are the following

  • Freeform Title/Content – However your profile may feel a touch empty without something there.
  • Plot Arc Hook
  • Character Wanted Ads

Timeline replaces the “History” or “Background” section. Because we chose to go with a lighter version does not mean an author can skip out on writing a history. This is still important to understand how your character has interacted with the lore of the world before you begin writing. We will still be seeking details that show you have a clear understanding of how your character developed in this world.

the application process is more about making sure lore is incorporated and used properly. However, staff are looking for robust profiles that show clear development and are not blank slates or “works in progress” that need to be play tested before you know who they are. The profiles are concise, but not without density. They allow for secrecy, and discovery via roleplay, but are not without development. Your application demonstrates what level of writing you will be brining to the site. Do not assume other writers will automatically be interested in your character; include details in your profile to spark interest, intrigue, and hooks that help others connect their characters to yours a visa versa. We do not incorporate shippers in our profiles, so it is up to you to bring those details in your own way.
If your profile passes all the lore tests and staff launches your character but it lacks those details, staff are not responsible for other authors interest levels nor are they required to write with you. They will however give you a suggestion of encouragement of what more details could or should be added to aid you. It is up to you on how you wish to embark on your writer’s journey. There is a playtest forum, Pure Fiction, should you need to test drive your creation before or during the application process. When your character is approved (and the third party is also approved if not already), then you can request the thread to move to the main cannon forum to be officially part of the site.

Site Automations

Of Pride & Providence possess hand crafted codes special for automation to streamline your experience and ease staff burdens. The following are active and Functional

The Portal is our “newspaper” which shows In-character announcements, in world events, recent activity, new authors/characters, character of the month, top wordcount trackers by character and author, top posters by character & author, awards of the month, and store purchases of the month. Aside from writing the posts themselves to fill the paper, all are automated by the system.

Faceclaims are automatically added to the list based upon your input in the profile and user group based on application status. This is true too for the works in progress list, as soon as you input a Faceclaim it is added to the list.

Wanted Ads are added via adding a filled-out template(s) into your profile. You can add as many as you like, including to your author account. The template is provided in the right side of the profile editor in the instructions. Be sure to follow the instructions for it to work.

Plot Hooks is our way of showcasing and protecting your character’s specific plot and how people may join in. It is your choice if you wish to have your character added to the list. In order to be added to the list you must fill out Plot arc, Plot arc hook, Occupation industry, occupation and Location. To be excluded, simply leave Plot arc hook blank, as it is the only field not required for profiles.

The NanO Tracker tracks the wordcounts for the month and previous month, as well as the annual count and overall count. This is available year around, however, during NaNo month of November, you can sit back and just enjoy writing while participating in the event as the site will auto track it for all active character accounts.

Awards & Store Purchases once acquired at automatically included into the profile for display in their proper categories.

Character Relationships is a system much like Facebook. This is access in the User CP under the second to the last sidebar option “relationships” just begin searching for the character username, select relationship type and send. It will update on both ends when the other character accepts. Not monogamous? That’s fine, you can have more then one relationship listed at a time.

The Automated Thread Tracker automatically keeps track of your threads for you. They are green when the account last replied, red when someone else has replied, struck out when deleted or hidden by staff to retcon (but not lose!) and will auto close after 30 days of no activity. They are neatly organized in three categories based on where the thread is posted.
