Application Instructions

Applications are 99% completed inside profiles.

How to Edit Your Application
  • To access your profile to edit, click the "card" icon next to the logout button in the lower top navigation strip.
Then click "edit Profile" in the sidebar of your control panel.
  • While there are options to add images in the profile itself, to update the Avatar, you must click "Change Avatar" to add one.
  • (optional) If you want an image strip at the end of your posts, you must click "Change Signature." Signatures are pre-coded to auto-size.
  • Our profiles are HTML-enabled.

What Must Be Included in Your Application
  • Your profile must be completed. Only boxes marked in the profile editor instructions as "optional" can be left blank. Please read and follow the instructions for each profile box.
    • Character Overview should display a strong sense of their personality, of who they are, what they are doing, and why. Including likes, dislikes, how they make friends, enemies, or love; and where their ambitions are or aren't is ideal.  This is your primary chunk of Profile; if it's overly short and profiles no sustenance, you may be asked to sit with it longer.
    • Timelines replace formal History/Background sections. You do not need to overcomplicate this. Each timeline marker should be a significant event that has made the character who they are today or has gotten them to where they are today. They do not need to be overly specific outside of 1916-1940, needing to integrate setting history. It is OK if they are short, and it's Ok if they are long.
    • If profiles feel too short or you have something to add that does not fit the overview or timelines, Freeform is 100% customizable to fit that need. Don't have anything to add? The space still requires being filled with something even if it's a quote, poem, or song lyrics.

  • Images required:
    • An Avatar is required, and must be your Character's FC. You may use portrait rotators. 250x500
    • Gif is required; It should be of your FC for your character, but if no GIF can be found, you may use a regular image of them. This should not be aesthetic. 200x200
    • A Top Banner is required. This can be of your character or aesthetic. 1200x400
    • Mood board images are Optional; if you are choosing not to use them, please toggle them off at the top of your profile editor.
    • Images should be high quality and not blurry, which happens if the image is too small

How to submit Your Application?
  • Create a new thread in Applications with your character profile, stating that they are ready for review

What is being looked for in Your Application?
  • Primarily, lore integration. Profiles should include references to setting history, terminology, acknowledgment of specicies conflicts and laws, especially if you are making a character that goes against them. This does not mean you need to copy-paste the lorebook into profiles; it means that, for example, if you mention having a Vampyre that is reckless and doesn't care about exposure that there is clear understanding that they are breaking Vampyre law and incorporate some aspect of the consequences.
Because there is a war going on, all characters will be expected to have the war incorporated in their profiles in some way.
  • Realism - This is subjective in many ways, and it is not common to see issues anymore. However, should there be seen anything that goes against the laws of reality and the structure of the AU, you will be asked to ground it. Examples may be things like anime physics, or the Princess, Ninja, Doctor, Pirate Queen who runs a smuggling business and still attends the balls where there is no logical way to be everything at once on a 24-hour clock.
  • Plot Hook Cross-overs; If a plot seems identical to something someone else already has going on, both parties will be spoken to to ensure there is awareness and comfortability. While there is always room to do the same sort of arc in different ways, this can make some people feel steamrolled over and their creativity not respected.  We encourage looking at the plot hooks to see how your character may fit into what already exists before forging your own path and making sure you speak to that person to make sure you are not stepping on toes.
  • Wanted-ads matchups; if your character looks like they would fill a wanted ad 90% but maybe a few tweaks and a different FC, we may suggest filling the ad. In most cases, all wanteds are tweakable and FCs are merely suggestions.
  • Wanted-ad fill-ins - If your character is filling a Wanted ad, we will be checking in with the wanted ad creator to make sure the wanted is being met, even if the character's profile itself is good to go.

How do I receive corrections for my Application?
You will receive a private message on your character account, including all staff (in the case of absences), with a list of corrections needed and possible suggestions. We do not air your application corrections to the public, but there will be a reply to your application to check your private messages.

Do not have anxiety over this. Nearly all applications, including old timers and staf,f receive correction notices.
